Treatment Plant Operator - Student Worker

• Whittier Area
• Desert Area (Lancaster, Palmdale, and Valencia)

The mission of the Treatment Plant Operator Student Worker Program is to provide students with opportunities to enhance their education through the practical application of their skills, and for the Districts to cultivate a talented workforce.

Student Workers receive supervision from a Treatment Plant Operator or higher-level classification and are assigned basic tasks related to treatment plant operations. Typical assignments include housekeeping duties, routine preventative maintenance, and recording measurements and calculations. Student Workers will be given opportunities to shadow various operations activities. Student Workers work part-time and the number of hours worked per week will be determined based on the student's class schedule and the Districts' needs. Opportunities may be offered at our Lancaster, Long Beach, Los Coyotes (Cerritos), Palmdale, Pomona, San Jose Creek (Whittier), Saugus, Whittier Narrows (El Monte), A.K. Warren Water Resource Facility (Carson), and Valencia wastewater treatment plants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Eligibility:
Student worker applicants must be enrolled in at least one college level course or correspondence course that is directly applicable to a career in treatment plant operations.

SELECTION PROCESS:

• All applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates meet the required qualifications for interview.
• The selection process will consist of an interview weighted at 100%
• Qualified candidates who pass the interview process will be placed on an eligible list and notified of vacancies as they arise.
