The Transitional Assistance Department is recruiting for Eligibility Worker Supervisors who plan, organize, and supervise a unit of Eligibility Workers engaged in determining initial and continuing eligibility for public assistance programs such as CalWORKs, CalFresh, Medi-Cal, etc., in accordance with established procedures. English/Spanish bilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is available for bilingual skills.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment: Applicants must pass a pre-employment process, which includes fingerprinting, credit check, and/or medical exam, prior to appointment.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Incumbents will be required to make provision for transportation.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet both the Experience and Education requirements:

Experience:
Two (2) years of full-time work experience, within the past three (3) years, in a California Department of Social Services agency performing duties equivalent to those of an Eligibility Worker II or higher, determining initial and continuing eligibility for one or more of the following public assistance programs: CalWORKs, Welfare-to-Work, CalFresh, Medi-Cal, etc.

Note: Eligibility Worker I experience is NOT considered qualifying and must be clearly separated on the application from time spent as a journey-level Eligibility Worker II or higher.
Education:
Fifteen (15) semester units (or 23 quarter units) of college coursework in one of the following fields: behavioral/social science, business/public administration, English, math, humanities, administration of justice, or a closely related field.

A list of completed coursework or legible transcripts must be submitted with the application if the applicant does not have an associate’s degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields.

Note: Completion of the San Bernardino County Management Leadership Academy (MLA) program will be accepted toward the required coursework on the basis of four (4) quarter units of credit per MLA track completed.
Substitution:
Additional qualifying experience (referenced above) may substitute for the education requirement on a basis of six (6) months of experience for fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework in qualifying field listed above.

Example:
Three (3) or more years of full-time work experience, within the past three (3) years, in a California Department of Social Services agency performing duties equivalent to those of an Eligibility Worker II or higher with no education

Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.


Desired Qualifications

English/Spanish bilingual skills are highly desirable. Incumbents receive additional compensation for verbal and written translation skills. Bilingual positions require that applicants pass written and oral language competency tests to be considered for such vacancies. High volume call center experience is also greatly desired.
