THE TEAM MEMBER WE ARE SEARCHING FOR:

Exercises direct technical and administrative supervision over a unit performing a variety of radiographic procedures.

Essential Job Functions

  • Counsels subordinates on overall performance.
  • Prepares performance evaluations of assigned subordinates for review by higher level supervising technologists, division head, and/or personnel officer.
  • Trains and/or supervises the training of radiologic technology students and technologists in the safe and accurate performance of specific procedures which the unit is responsible for performing.
  • Investigates and reports on employee relations problems to supervisor.
  • Plans and organizes work in an assigned unit to ensure that all examinations are expeditiously processed and meet requisite standards of quality and safety.
  • Contacts members of teams of Radiologic Technologists, Special Procedures and ancillary personnel for emergency duty; reviews equipment preparation and operation for cardiovascular and neuroradiology examinations.
  • Assigns work to technologists by relating the examination work order to equipment capability; assigns technologists to operate mobile or stationary equipment.
  • Resolves problems for technologists with respect to positioning of patients and/or modification of machine control settings to obtain desired results.
  • Reads orders for radiographic examinations and schedules patients in accordance with protocol or physician's direction.
  • Inspects work area and equipment, and orders needed supplies and maintenance services within specified limits.
  • Checks machine control settings and proper use of collimators, grids, shielding and film badges for conformance with State regulations to ensure the safety of patients and health services personnel.
  • Compiles and reports number and type of completed X-ray examinations performed by the unit.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
One year (1) of experience as a certified radiologic technologist performing a variety of radiographic and other related examinations under the supervision of a qualified radiologist.

LICENSE:
Certification - as a radiologic technologist issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health -AND- A radiologic technologist fluoroscopy permit - issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class 3 – Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

Additional Information

EXAMINATION CONTENT:

This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based upon application information weighted 100%.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Additional points will be awarded to applicants with additional experience beyond the Minimum Requirements.

Candidates that achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination will be placed on the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:
Applicants who passed the assessment are placed on a register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the register accordingly. We will use this register to fill vacancies in the Department of Health Services as they occur.

No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

AVAILABLE SHIFT:
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
