- DESCRIPTION
This Fire Prevention Specialist – Plan Review recruitment is an Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) internal recruitment. Only applications from current Fire Prevention Specialist (non-probationary) and Senior Fire Prevention Specialist personnel will be accepted.
Incumbents are responsible for performing a wide variety of fire prevention activities, including a variety of inspections and plan review types. Incumbents will be assigned to the Planning and Development Services, Plan Review Section.
This position requires a six-month commitment by the candidate, which may be altered based on the needs of the Community Risk Reduction Department. This is a rotational assignment. Candidates placed on the candidate pool list will be rotated on an as needed basis.
ADDITIONAL PAY:
Employees in the Plan Review position will be eligible for 7.5% Plan Review Pay. Please refer to the OCEA MOU, page 102 for additional information.- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Conduct plan reviews and field inspections as needed to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local fire codes and regulations
- Review plans, blueprints, equipment, standards, chemical inventories, and processes to ensure compliance with safety requirements
- Complete data input and analysis of a variety of information related to fire prevention and
occupancies - Review, evaluate, process, and maintain a variety of files related to fire prevention activities.
- Research, prepare reports, and issue fire and life safety notices, permits, and correction letters that outline compliance issues and deficiencies
- Assist the public, representatives of other public agencies, consultants, and other employees with technical inquiries
- Develop and disseminate fire safety and code compliance materials and otherwise assist with public safety programs. Participate in a variety of special projects related to fire prevention activities
- Assist in the pursuance of legal remedies for non-compliance, including issuance of pre-citation notices, preparing legal complaints, and testifying in court
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications for the position include:
- A current OCFA Senior Fire Prevention Specialist or Fire Prevention Specialist (non-probationary status).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class may typically require: climbing, balancing, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, driving, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.
