Position description

The Department of Neurology at the University of California Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting a full-time neurohospitalist to provide clinical neurology services. This hospital clinical-based position will provide inpatient clinical neurology services at UC Davis Health. The department has over 70 clinical faculty across all neurological subspecialties offering highly skilled neurological care.

The UC Davis Department of Neurology and UC Davis Health teaching hospital are nationally ranked in US News & World Report. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, UC Davis Health has the largest catchment area of the academic medical centers in California.

UC Davis Health is a Comprehensive Stroke Center that provides 24/7 coverage for neuro-endovascular procedures, neurocritical care ICU support, neurovascular neurosurgery and includes RN stroke coordinators, and a well-established telestroke/ teleneurology network. Faculty work closely with residency programs in Neurology, Neurosurgery, as well as participate in Neurocritical Care clinical education. The department has several ACGME-approved fellowship programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibilities of the position include management of the inpatient general neurology wards, consult program, and general teleneurology seeing an average of 5-15 patients per day. The incumbent will work a 24-hour shift, 7-days on, 7-days off schedule for 20 weeks per year. Other weeks are covered by neurology attendings throughout the department. Half a day of a post-hospital discharge clinic once per week when off service.

The incumbent will be required to teach medical students, residents, and fellows on bedside rounds; establish performance/quality improvement initiatives, develop research and creative work; and provide university and public service. The ideal candidate will have inpatient experience, strong organizational skills, collaborative, and have an interest in being part of developing a Neurohospitalist service.

The position is available in either the Health Sciences Clinical Professor or Clinical Neurology series at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. Appointees in the Clinical Neurology series must have the ability and experience to conduct bench, clinical or translational research and have a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

- Possess a MD, DO or MD/PhD
- Experience with inpatient and ICU neurology, including management of diverse, complex neurologic conditions
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated strong communication skills to work collaboratively with other disciplines, specialties and neurological subspecialties.

- For the Clinical Neurology series, the ability to conduct bench, clinical or translational research and have a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

- California medical license or licensure eligibility
- Board certified/eligible in Neurology by the ABPN.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

- Fellowship training in a Neurohospitalist program or Vascular Neurology on or before start date
- Board certification or eligibility in Vascular Neurology and/or Neurocritical Care on or before start date
- For the Clinical Neurology series, evidence of success in obtaining extramural funding and/or administering clinical trials.
